Hi! I’m Megan Burbank, an award-winning journalist. My coverage of abortion policy in the absence of Roe v. Wade leaves readers more informed and less terrified. As an experienced newsroom manager and consultant, I also help editors and reporters navigate periods of crisis and transition with less stress and more support.

With 10 years of media experience, I provide services in almost every area of journalism: reporting, writing, editing, fact-checking, copy-editing, and emergency rewrites, plus developmental editing and book doctoring, and social media strategy and branded content for companies, nonprofits, and universities. I also write white papers and reports for academic organizations.

Dealing with an editorial crisis or staff absence? I’m also a frequent interim editor, ready to fly in like Mary Poppins to help keep your news outlet afloat. In my own coverage, I specialize in enterprise reporting on reproductive health policy, which I write about nationally for outlets like NPR and The New Republic, and locally for Pacific Northwest-based outlets like Crosscut, The Seattle Times, and the South Seattle Emerald. I also write about culture.

Before going freelance, I worked as an editor at the Portland Mercury and The Seattle Times. You can find my work at those places, as well as RealClearScience, InvestigateWest, The Stranger, Willamette Week, Teen Vogue, and daily papers, NPR affiliates, and alternative newsweeklies across the country.
